Join the Mapping Engineering team
The Mapping Engineering team is responsible for the software that measures and models the global internet and directs traffic for Akamai's globally distributed network of servers. This code represents Akamai's 'secret sauce', allowing us to manage our customers' Internet information flows with industry-leading performance and reliability.

As a Software Engineer II, you will be part of an expert team tasked to design and develop components of its next-generation mapping system. The Internet is a complex and noisy environment, and there are no simple answers to the problems the team tackles. This is precisely what makes the job fun and rewarding.
As a Software Engineer II, you will be responsible for:
- Analyzing, designing and implementing system software, which brings functionality, accuracy, reliability, and scalability to Akamai's mapping system.
- Developing innovative and elegant solutions in a highly dynamic environment.
- Collaborating across engineering teams and other stakeholders to integrate and deliver features on time.
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field & 3 years of relevant experience.
- Have minimum of 2 years of experience working in C++ or a similar object-oriented language.
- Experience building scalable servers or distributed systems
- Have understanding of Linux operating system
- Be knowledgeable in scripting (e.g. Perl, Python, shell)
- Have familiarity with Internet protocols such as DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP, TLS
